Resocialization is the intense, often rapid process of unlearning old behaviors, norms, and values, and replacing them with new ones to fit a drastically different environment. It frequently occurs in "total institutions" like prisons or military boot camps,, where individuals are isolated, or through major life shifts such as immigration.
